Oushak Rugs are known for their use of silky wool. Goat wool is often used in the weaving of the rugs. Oushak rugs were extremely popular beginning in the 15th century, although the rugs were probably made before that time. Of all the Turkish rugs made, no other was made in such quality and quantity over such a long period of time as Oushak rugs. Oushak rugs remained high in popularity throughout the 16th and 17th centuries and many of these rugs were shipped throughout Europe, decorating the homes of the rich and noble as well as being used in churches. Oushak rugs often display colours of gold, rust, and teal giving them a fine and rich look that has been desired by the rich and noble for centuries.
